IPC excites learners in the Junior Department
15th Apr 2011

The introduction of the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) in January within the Junior Department has had immediate positive benefits to children and teachers alike creating a real ‘buzz’. Learning has become ‘connected’ by integrating subjects under one topic. The Year 4 children, for example, have studied a unit called ‘Chocolate’. In History they studied the Aztecs, in Geography the regions in which cacao is grown, in Science they looked at temperature and melting points as well as tasting areas on the tongue, in Literacy the children studied Roald Dahl and then performed ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ to the school community. Year 1 children have been Time Detectives and Fashion Gurus. Year 2 have been learning about the Circus and their local habitat while Year 3 have learnt about ‘Our Active Planet’ including volcanos and earthquakes. All the topics are supported by research carried out in ICT and incorporate exciting off-site visits also including a trip to Cadbury World and a Circus Skills course. Chocolate, The Circus and Fashion Design? School has never been so much fun!
