Sport & Physical Education

Sport and physical education (PE) are an integral part of life for all at All Hallows. We are guided by the simple ethos that by introducing children to a wide range of team sports and individual events, we hope to instil a love of taking exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle. We are fortunate to have extensive facilities which are set against the stunning backdrop of the Somerset countryside that surrounds us.

Whether your child is a potential sports scholar, a reluctant participant or somewhere in between, we aim to support and encourage them to develop into physically literate, resilient, creative and skilled individuals. Multiple games and/or PE sessions are built into our curriculum each week for all pupils from the Nursery to Year 8 and parents are invited to come and support the children in competitive fixtures and tournaments. The extensive weekend match programme is a major feature of our wider educational provision and we have recently introduced our innovative 'Body Armour' programme.

We appreciate that sport is full of ups and downs, challenges, rewards and many memories. In this way it is representative of life, and a true vehicle for us to help prepare children for the journey they will go on and to equip them to cope with adversity with courage and success with humility.

Our core team sports are rugby, hockey and cricket for the boys whilst the girls play hockey, netball, cricket and rounders. The excellent tuition provided by our own highly-skilled team in these sports is regularly supported by visits from specialists delivering masterclasses to further skills and provide inspiration to the children.

In addition to games lessons, we offer an extensive PE programme designed to develop core skills, strength and coordination via a wide variety of activities. These include athletics, cross-country, swimming, tennis, badminton, judo, life-saving, orienteering, an introduction to biathlon, striking & fielding, dance, gymnastics, tag rugby, and football.

Our children have access to a great range of extra-curricular lessons at their fingertips, delivered by specialist coaches chosen for their outstanding provision. Extra activities currently on offer include individual or small group tennis coaching, golf, judo, cross-country, cricket, gymnastics, dance, swimming and ballet.

We also offer a range of free lunchtime and afterschool clubs. These informal clubs change on a termly basis, but have included touch rugby, hockey, rugby 7s, badminton, dodgeball, netball, athletics and basketball.

Wherever possible, our children are encouraged and supported in pursuit of individual sports.
